Join Firelight Team for VBS 2024!!

Teen Leader Application Due : May, 3rd, 2024 (MIDNIGHT) *note: applications submitted after this time will automatically move you into a wait list situation

MANDATORY Training for selected applicants: JUNE 22, 2024 (12 pm - 6 pm)

Do you enjoy working with children between the ages of 5 and 11? Are you a punctual, responsible, energetic, and spiritual person? If so, you are invited to volunteer your time, energy and talents as camp leader for St. Simon’s Vacation Bible School this summer. The program will be held at St. Simon campus from June 24^th- 28th, and will include students entering kindergarten through sixth grade.

The schedule for the teen camp leaders will be from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, June 24th– Thursday, June 27th, AND Friday, June 28th from 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM. You must attend all volunteer sessions or you will forfeit any volunteer hours. Final required hours will be communicated at the mandatory training session, see below.

During camp, Teen Leaders will either act as counselors to a group of about 8 - 10 campers composed of boys and girls in a specific age group OR will be selected for a different leadership role within the camp. Placements are made with careful consideration to overall camp and camper needs as well as any information on you, the applicant. You will be requested to complete areas of interest but this will not be a guarantee of placement or selection as a leader in the 2024 camp.

All high school students and incoming 7^thand 8^thgrade students have an opportunity to earn service hours upon successful completion of the camp leadership training and all hours of the VBS Camp. All camp leaders will be expected to fully participate in all aspects of the camp’s daily activities and will be released as a team at the end of each session. Early departure will result in the forfeiture of your volunteer hours or a change in your assignment during camp week.

Please note that, if selected, you will be required to attend ONE training event prior to the week of camp. This training session is mandatory to your participation in VBS 2024 and there will be no online or makeup sessions to this training. If you do not attend this training due to outside obligations, last minute changes and/or illness you will forfeit your assigned spot at VBS 2024.

In the event of missed training and at the camp leaders discretion you may be placed in a non-leadership role during VBS week, if such a role is available. This will be put to leadership review and the determination will be communicated to you.

Teen Leader training will take place on Saturday, June 22nd on the St Simon campus from 12 pm - 6 pm. These trainings are formatted to best prepare you for your roles during the camp week and it is essential that you are available and present. Illness and/or last minute changes do not dismiss this obligation for this training to serve VBS 2024. Again, there will be no virtual or make up sessions.

Additional service opportunities will be available at various times working on the Skits, Music, and/or Decoration Teams. These opportunities will be communicated via email, please register with an address that is checked often.

Remember that your participation at the camp is a privilege. The campers’ experience is directly related to the enthusiasm they see in the Teen Leaders. This opportunity will provide you with valuable leadership training and experience throughout the week. You will be expected to joyfully welcome the campers each morning, fulfill your responsibilities, listen to directions, and follow through with any of your assigned tasks.

If you are selected into a position you will be contacted with additional requirements to be completed prior to the training session. Notifications of selected counselors will be sent via email by Saturday, June 4th (midnight).
