Singing for the Stage is a vocal arts workshop-and-scenes program for upper elementary, middle and high school students (4th to 12th grade). The program will be directed by Sonia and Omaldo Perez. The camp has a registration fee of $20.00 per child (no more than $50 per family) and will include intensive training in musical and theatrical skills. The weekly sessions will begin Saturday, February 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will culminate in a musical revue on Friday, March 1st at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 2nd at 11 a.m, which will be open to the public.
Singing for the Stage is directed by Omaldo and Sonia Perez.
Omaldo Perez is the Director of Music and Organist at Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio, where he directs the choirs, the ensembles, and a concert series that has over 30 events to its credit. Back in September, Omaldo directed a four-day Baroque Opera Workshop at the University of Toledo, featuring Henry Purcell's masterpiece The Fairy Queen. Before coming to OH, Omaldo musically directed theater programs in NYC and Seattle. As an accompanist, he has been featured on multiple occasions- along with his wife Sonia- in the Toledo Museum of Art It's Friday! series. As a singer, he has sung with companies and ensembles on both coasts of the US and across Europe (Greece, England, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, and the Netherlands).
Sonia Perez is a singer, actress, director and teaching artist. She has worked in theatres and educational institutions across the United States and Europe. She has directed such shows as And Then There Were None, Of Mice and Men, Narnia, Ladies of the Corridor, Christmas Belles, The Torchbearers and is currently directing Bus Stop at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre. She has been a soloist with The Seattle Symphony, The Buffalo Philharmonic, Bainbridge Symphony, Seattle Youth Symphony, Fredonia Chamber Players and the Perrysburg Symphony. She has performed concerts in Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial, The Brooklyn Museum and The Toledo Museum of Art. She has also performed in such shows as; City of Angels, The Full Monty, Carousel, The Sound of Music, Two By Two, A Rose for Danny, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change, Swingtime Canteen, My Way – A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra Brighton Beach Memoirs, Broadway Bound, Amahl and the Night Visitors as well as world premiere of the operatic trilogy Our Earth with Seattle Opera and national tours of Carmen and H.M.S.
