This year at VBS, our mission project will be to raise funds for the missions that the Children’s Ministry at Shenandoah Baptist Church supports throughout the year.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a Samaritan’s Purse Program that provides shoeboxes full of hygiene items, school supplies and small toys to children around the world. In addition to the shoeboxes, children that receive them are also able to participate in The Greatest Journey, a 12-week bible-study that teaches children how to follow Jesus. Shenandoah Baptist Church collects items throughout the year for OCC and then packs the shoeboxes in November for National Collection Week. In the past, our shoeboxes have gone to Mexico, Haiti, the Philippines, Niger, Togo, and Botswana.  It is awesome for our children to be a part of program that impacts children around the world.

Leander ISD has a backpack program now called Food for Friends that is available to children that are in need of meal assistance. These children often receive meal assistance during the school week, but when they go home for the weekend, do not have access to breakfast and lunch. LISD provides children enrolled in the program a bag that contains breakfast, lunch and snacks for the weekend. The Wednesday night Children in Action class at Shenandoah collects money and food to provide items for the program and packs the bags once a month. The class enjoys serving their community.
