Local Mission Project: Blessing Bags

      The THURMAN BRISBEN HOMELESS SHELTER provides shelter and other resources to help those in need as they journey through a difficult time in their lives.  Many of these folks come with children.  The homeless experience can be very traumatic for kids, everything in their world has changed.  To help these kids adjust to the anxiety and uncertainty of their new environment our local mission project for VBS is to create Blessing Bags.  Each bag will be filled with SIX items from our list and will cost about $7.90 (if you shop at the Dollar Tree) and will fit nicely in the bag and are fun to use. Please do not purchase guns or action figures with guns.

AGES 5-10  (Pick Six Items from this list)

Color/Activity books, Large box of crayons, Puzzles, Flute, Sticker Books, Match Box Cars, Modeling Clay, Dry Erase Board, Sun Catcher Paint Kit, Boxed Games (Chute and Ladder) or Craft Kits

Ages 11-13 (Pick Six Items from this list)

Sticker Books, Dart Games, Puzzles, Flute, Harmonica, Jump Rope, Cross Stich Kits, 3-D Dinosaur Puzzles, Spiral Art Kit, Paint Your Own Poster, Boxed Games (Chess, Uno, Monopoly, etc.) or Craft Kits

Ages 13 and UP (Pick Six Items from this list)

Journal, Mechanical Pencils, Books like Find A Word, trivia, Sudoku, Adult Coloring Books, Colored Pencils, Sketch Book, Boxed Games (Chess, Uno, Monopoly, etc,), Dominoes, Puzzles, Brain Twister wooden Puzzles or any Challenging Activities.                             

International Mission Project: More Than Nets (through BGAV – Baptist General Association of Virginia)   Goal: $1500

More Than Nets- Yendi region of Ghana. More Than Nets continues to tackle the scourge of malaria in West Africa.

Treated mosquito nets are distributed in villages along with training. Also, this allows for church planting in many of those villages.

By partnering with BGAV Each $10 donation is used as follows:

  • $6 = 1 mosquito net
  • $2 = Education into the proper use of the mosquito net and additional education tools on health, awareness and prevention of malaria.
  • $1 = Transportation
  • $1 = Church Planting

We are excited to partner with such experts, who love God and have a desire to care for God's people. With our goal of $1500 we have the opportunity to purchase 150 nets, help educated the community and help with Church Planting.
