A Family of Faith
A Family of Faith, a parent-led faith formation program from Sophia Institute. Studies show that parental involvement is by far the most important factor for ensuring that a child develops into a practicing Christian. Yet, too often we neglect parent formation and focus exclusively on the formation of the child. A Family of Faith offers an easy-to-use solution for catechizing the whole family and equipping them with the tools they need to lead their children to Heaven.
A Family of Faith follows a four-year cycle for grades 1-5. Parents are given a detailed picture of authentic and vibrant Catholic family life, the tools to implement this life in their home, age appropriate readings, games, crafts, and other activities to help them deepen among their children a love for Christ and His Church. After four years, families will have been guided through the entirety of the Catechism and will have developed a broad understanding of Christ’s teachings.
How does it work?
On one Sunday each month, parents and children will gather for a family meeting in the parish center. At this meeting, an overview of the month’s teaching will be given, in an effort to help parents assume their role as the primary educators of their children.
Over the course of the month, parents will teach two lessons to their children at home with the easy-to-use Parent Guide and the student activity books. Throughout the year, we will offer family activities for the various liturgical seasons.
Faith and Life
Ignatius Press’s Faith and Life Online Series offers students a thorough grounding in Catholic doctrine. Students will learn about the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Reconciliation. Interactive learning includes videos, games, discussion questions, reflections, links to more information, online assessments, reports, and more.
The students are prepared for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion through studying the development of salvation history. As students learn about God’s plan of love and mercy, they begin to understand that these sacraments are God’s gift to us and that they too are part of God’s loving plan. Special emphasis is given to preparation for and reception of these sacraments, as well as learning about the Mass.
