AWANA PARENT PARTICIPATION FAQ
What is AWANA?
AWANA is a program our church uses to help lay a solid biblical
foundation of faith in children’s lives. AWANA is an acronym for
Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed from 2 Timothy 2:15.
At Christ Community Church, we want our children to build
discipleship relationships with others as they learn lessons and
play fun games while participating in AWANA. Our hope is that
they would come to know Christ and learn to live for him through
the truth of scripture and the example of their leaders.
Why is there a requirement for parent participation?
Our church covenant speaks of walking together in love, watching over one another,
and intentionally discipling those in our care. AWANA provides a great opportunity for
our parents to be able to do that for the children of the church. In addition, our current
5 year ministry plan highlights an effort to increase household discipleship amongst our
members. AWANA provides tools to help parents disciple their children in God’s Word and it
provides parents an opportunity to serve on campus by participating in the discipleship of
the children in the program.
Parents are the most influential people in a child’s life and God has given them a unique opportunity to help their child build a strong foundation of faith (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Eph 6:4). We believe AWANA is a resource that can help equip our parents to be more effective in teaching their children about God, while also equipping the kids of our church in the process.
Is there flexibility in how often I serve at AWANA?
Yes. There are many opportunities to serve in AWANA based on your availability from a weekly commitment to serving occasionally throughout the AWANA year.
What if I can’t serve at AWANA, can I still sign up my child?
Yes, we want every child to have the opportunity to attend AWANA. While we are calling parents to serve on AWANA nights, we understand there may be times when a parent is unable to do so (e.g. if you are serving in another ministry at Christ Community Church, if you work during AWANA nights, etc.). Parent participation is still necessary at home with your child. There will be a workbook that they should be working on during the week and they will need your help with that. Please make a commitment to spend time working on these lessons with your child during the week. If you are unable to serve during AWANA night, please indicate this on your “volunteer registration” by selecting the option which says “Currently serving in another area at CCC/unable to serve at this time” and provide the reason why you won’t be able to serve this year. Should your availability change and you become able to serve during AWANA nights, we would love for you to join our team.
