Growing God’s Love in Haiti

When you get hungry, you probably open a cupboard or refrigerator to find a snack.  And if your shelves were bare, you might head to the home of a neighbor or family member, or even a local food bank.

But imagine if no one had food?

Unfortunately, that’s what daily life is like for most Haitians.  Food is scarce for everyone.

·      Haiti is considered the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

·      Decades of intense logging have led to the deforestation of this island nation.  That deforestation, combined with recent hurricanes, violent tropical storms, and years of drought, has left Haitians with poor soil that makes farming a struggle.

·      Harvests have dropped to about one-third of normal production.

·      In 2016, 26% of children ages 5 and under suffer from chronic malnutrition.

Group Cares and World Vision are partnering to bring long-term food security to the people of Haiti.  A donation of just $10 helps provide drought-tolerant seeds for a Haitian family, growing into crops that can feed a child for a year.  Since fruits and vegetables produce new seeds, these efforts can continue to feed families for years to come!  These funds also allow World Vision teams to work in Haitian communities, teaching farmers updated techniques and promoting reforestation efforts.  Through this program, our kids at VBS can feed thousands of struggling families for many years!
