VBS VOLUNTEER APPLICATION 2026

VOLUNTEER POLICY
- Adult Volunteers Only: Be fingerprinted through the Diocese of Columbus so that a criminal background check can be made. Fingerprints must be redone every 5 years.
- Adult Volunteers Only: In collaboration with the Diocese of Columbus’ commitment to provide a ‘Safe Environment’ for the children in our care, St. Peter St. Joan of Arc Parish requires every volunteer, 18 and older (has graduated high-school), who has contact with children to:
- Adult Volunteers Only: Attend a ‘Protecting God’s Children’ training session.
- Adult Volunteers Only - please reach out to Cindy Guzak to be re-fingerprinted and/or to obtain other important Safe Environment information: cguzak@spsjoa.org
- Teen volunteers must still fill out this form and abide by the 'Code of Conduct' for the Diocese of Columbus Volunteers. (Parents of minors volunteering for VBS, please read through the code of conduct with them so that they understand fully what is expected of them).
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR DIOCESE OF COLUMBUS VOLUNTEERS:
- St. Peter St. Joan of Arc Parish volunteers faithfully embody the teachings of the Catholic Church, demonstrating integrity in both word and deed. They uphold the dignity of every person, avoiding behavior or language that disrespects individuals or groups. Called to serve the faith community, volunteers carry out their ministry with dedication, charity, and diligence.
- Volunteers work collaboratively with the pastor and/or other ministry supervisors and team members. They are accountable to the pastor or to another duly appointed representative of the parish.
- Volunteers are competent and receive education/training appropriate for their role/responsibilities. They are aware of their limitations with respect to paraprofessional counseling and make referrals.
- Volunteers serve all people without regard to gender, creed, national origin, age, marital status, socio-economic status, or political beliefs.
- Volunteers act to ensure all people have access to the resources, services and opportunities they require with regard to persons with special needs or disabilities.
- Volunteers exercise responsible stewardship or resources while holding themselves to the highest standards of integrity regarding fiscal matters placed in their trust.
- Volunteers respect confidentiality.
ADDENDUM FOR VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITH MINORS:
- I understand that as a St Peter St Joan of Arc volunteer working with minors, that I am subject to the requirements of the Safe Environment program, which includes completing a Protecting God’s Children class, background check and signing this Code of Behavior.
- Volunteers adhere to civil and Church law, policies and procedures to report neglect, suspected abuse or when physical harm could come to the person or to a third party. Volunteers know they have considerable personal power because of their ministerial position. Therefore, they will avoid manipulation and other abuses of power. Physical, sexual, or romantic relationships between an adult volunteer and a minor are unethical and are prohibited.
- Volunteers support the role of the parent and model positive behaviors when working with minors.
- Volunteers will not use, possess, or be under the influence of tobacco products, alcohol and/or controlled substances while working with minors. They will not procure or provide minors with these items.
- Volunteers will use appropriate discipline techniques such as positive reinforcement or redirection when needed, not physical actions or discipline that humiliates or criticizes.
- Volunteers will avoid situations where they are alone with children and/or youths at parish activities.
- Volunteers will not touch a child and/or youth in a sexual or other inappropriate manner.
- Volunteers will not use profanity in the presence of children and/or youths.
- Volunteers are aware of the signs of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse and neglect. Volunteers will immediately report any suspected case of child abuse and/or neglect to the pastor, administrator or supervisor. They will cooperate in any investigation of abuse of children and/or youth.
- By completing the volunteer form for VBS, you agree and adhere to the CODE OF CONDUCT.
