Rally Sunday

Join us for our Rally Sunday Block Party on September 10 to kick off the new Sunday school year. There will be a 10 a.m. outdoor worship service on Bethany's green space behind Appleyards with a carnival to follow.  We have an awesome experience planned for you with a tailgate lunch, music, carnival games and more!

Sunday School

The first official Sunday school classes will begin on Sunday, September 17 and continue through May 20, 2018. Sunday school will run from 9:00-9:55 a.m. in the lower level of the church. You may drop your child/children off at their classrooms beginning at 9:00am. There will be sign at the bottom of the stairs indicating which room your child should go to upon arrival and which room to pick them up. Classes will be offered for preschool (3 years) through 12th grade.

Preschool-5th Grades

(Preschool students must be 3 years old by September 1 and Kindergarten students must be in a Kindergarten class at an area school or home-schooled at the Kindergarten level.)

Our preschool through fifth grade classes start out the year with a 4-5 week session on the Lutheran Catechism. Martin Luther had many questions about the Christian faith, and he knew that everyone else did too. For almost 500 years Luther’s Small Catechism has served as a handbook to help people think about the core teachings and practices of the church. After the Catechism lessons, the prek-5th grade classes will dive deep into Bible stories with Spark:  Activate Faith. Classes will explore the same Bible story for 4-5 weeks.  Our preschool group will explore the stories each week rotating through music, games, snacks, and fun crafts.   The K-5th grade classes will explore the stories through different workshops each week such as cooking, science, video, art, and more.

6th-8th Grades

Our 6th-8th grade class looks at real questions middle school youth are asking and helps kids discover the power of a growing faith in Jesus. They have a great time in class looking at these questions with the help of movies, books and more.

Christmas Program

One of the most memorable experiences our Preschool through 5th grade students have is the opportunity to participate in the Christmas Program. The Christmas Program is under the direction of Sara Scheu. Not only does Sara direct it, but she writes the play! This is something you will definitely want your child/children to experience. The date of this year’s program is Sunday, December 10. Our Preschool children perform their program between our regular services.  Our K-5th grade students bring their Christmas program to our congregation during both the 8:00 am and 10:00 am worship services. Additional details will be available on the Bethany Lutheran Church website and will also be sent home with your student(s) later this fall.

Registration

We would REALLY appreciate your help in getting our students registered so we can recruit enough teachers, order materials and assign classrooms for the various age groups. You only need one registration form per family. We want to make sure that the families who want to be part of our Sunday school program are getting the information they need and that we have the Sunday school staff and materials available for all who want to grow in their Christian faith with us.  We are also asking about allergies, health conditions or special needs that our Sunday school staff should know about.  We are also eager to fill in our records with baptism dates (at least the year) and if your child has completed First Communion Class.

We do want to make note of the importance of attending Sunday school and that having your children attend on a regular basis is VERY important.  We welcome all children to attend as often as possible as it helps the students get to know their teachers, other students, new songs & Bible stories and most importantly, the power of God’s love.  Our goal is to make all children and parents feel welcome, nurtured and important. If your children have friends who wish to join us, they are welcome to come anytime.

Volunteer Opportunities

To make a successful ministry program, we do rely heavily on volunteers. Currently, we are still in need of Sunday school teachers for our 2016-2017 school year. We try to have several teachers per class so that they can rotate Sundays.  As a teacher you will be provided teaching materials and lessons. The curriculum is easy to follow and fun to teach!  If you are interested, please contact me and/or indicate that in the designated section on the bottom of the registration form. If you are interested in helping, but prefer not to teach, we have other things you can help with. Please email me for more volunteering information.

We are looking forward to a wonderful Sunday school year. Our #1 priority is facilitating an environment that allows and encourages every person to grow in their faith and live out the love of Jesus Christ. If you have any questions regarding registration or concerns about Sunday school, please call or email me.

God’s Blessings to All!
