Sound the Trumpets

“Prepare ye the way of the Lord!” The Old Testament prophets warned the people of Israel to prepare their hearts for the coming Messiah. In the New Testament, John the Baptist cried out in the wilderness for repentance because the Messiah was at hand. John, the disciple of Christ, closed the book of Revelation with the promise that the King is coming again to take his people home. “The King Is Coming!” rings out with the hope that Christ’s return is near and bids us prepare for the glorious moment. Our prayer is that through VBS this year, children who are believers can be encouraged to learn that Christ is returning to gather his saints from this fallen world, and that those who don’t know him will receive him because his return is imminent.

During the daily skits, children will watch as Prince Alexander shows Joey how to prepare himself for the arrival of the King. In Bible lessons, they will study God’s perfect creation and how Adam and Eve fell from grace; the covenant God made with Abraham; salvation through Christ; and the promise of glory given to those who believe in Christ.

Daily lessons are reinforced throughout the curriculum not only in class study times, but also through the music, skits, crafts, recreation time and even the snacks. The Crown Badge or hat (name tag) reinforces the themes and encourages children as they receive stickers that are symbolic reminders of the day’s lesson. There are activities targeting each type of learner so that every child will be able to learn the truths in a way that he or she will remember.

Now sound the trumpets! Roll out the banners! Prepare the way as you herald the good news that the King is coming to the children of your church and community!
